Referencing my own life, I make art as a means for preserving the most meaningful connections and memories taken from endearing experiences. As my father’s caretaker between 2020-2023, I was continuously provoked to stop, survey, and record my ruralsuburbian landscape. As a result, “Daytime Moon” and “Rising Expectations” represent two works from a collection of seventeen reimagined landscapes or time-capsules created as drawings and paintings for the show Surroundings, at FSCJ South Gallery.

Christie Holechek is a 3rd generation resident of Jacksonville, Florida, a visual artist, high school and college educator, and former Director of Jacksonville’s Art in Public Places. She has been a visiting instructor and adjunct faculty at the University of North Florida and a visiting artist for Jacksonville University. In 2022, Christie was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida to fund the production of her two solo exhibitions in 2022.
