What does an art consultant do?

You've seen the finished wall. Here's everything that happened before the first piece was hung.

Most people encounter art consulting at the end — a beautifully installed collection in a hospital corridor, a curated lobby that somehow feels exactly right for the brand. What they don't see is the months of work, collaboration, and decision-making that made it possible.

At Fogle Art Consulting, we've been doing this since 1994. And the question we still get most often from new clients is a simple one: what exactly do you do?

It starts with listening.

Before we recommend a single piece, we need to understand the space, the people who will use it, and the story the client wants to tell. For a healthcare facility, that might mean calming imagery that supports patient recovery. For a corporate headquarters, it might mean work that reflects the company's values and regional identity. For a university campus, it might mean honoring the cultural history of the neighborhood itself.

That listening phase — the brief — shapes everything that follows.

Then comes curation.

Curation is not shopping. It's a deliberate process of identifying artwork that fits the spatial, emotional, and budgetary requirements of a project. We work with local and regional artists, national publishing houses, galleries, and custom fabricators. Every piece is selected with intention.

Then procurement, fabrication, and project management.

Once the art program is approved, we coordinate every moving part: vendor relationships, print production, custom framing, delivery logistics, and installation schedules. We work alongside architects, contractors, and interior designers to make sure nothing falls through the cracks — and that the project comes in on time and on budget.

Then installation.

We personally oversee every installation. Every piece is placed according to detailed blueprints. Nothing is left to chance.

So — what does an art consultant do?

We take a blank wall and make it mean something. We take a budget and a vision and turn them into a finished environment that people will live and work in for years.

If you're an interior designer, architect, or facilities manager thinking about an upcoming project, we'd love to talk.
